Project Leaders: Clementine Blakemore, Rama Gheerawo

Number of participants: 12

Duration: 5 days

Description:
Working in partnership with Clementine Blakemore, an RCA graduate from the School of Architecture and one of this year’s Designers in Residence at the Design Museum, participants would help to construct a small pavilion which has been designed in response to the theme ‘Open’.

Based between the Royal College of Art and the new Design Museum, the 12 participants will work collaboratively alongside Clementine and a group of other design professionals such as a structural engineer. Learning through a direct engagement with materials and site, participants would assemble the pre-fabricated structure over the course of 5 days.

Alongside hands-on making, the team would rigorously document the process – through sketches, writing and film. Under the guidance of a graphic designer and film-maker, each participant would contribute to a publication and short film which will be shown at the Design Museum as part of the Designers in Residence exhibition.

Participants will be invited to an opening reception at the new museum, as well as a number of other events that will take place during the run of the exhibition from November through to March.

Developed with the support of the Helen Hamlyn Center for Design.
